Starting With OpenSocial

2007 Nov 21 - Gabrys

From now on, we're working on integration OpenSocial technology with the Wikidot.com service.

OpenSocial is a technology provided by Google that allow writing apps for any social service that support OpenSocial API. Our aim is to provide OpenSocial API for Wikidot.com service and thus allow anyone to write OpenSocial applications using our data!!

First of all Wikidot.com must provide OpenSocial Service Provider Interface

This includes:

  • Adding and removing friends — this is similar to your contacts — any added contact (in terms of Wikidot) will be your friend in terms of OpenSocial
  • Adding and removing apps — (these should be exactly the same for every social network — you should be able to copy an application from Orkut to Wikidot)
  • Storing activities — (should any page-change, new-post or new-thread activity on Wikidot be an activity in terms of OpenSocial?)
  • Retrieving activity streams for self and friends
  • Storing and retrieving per-app and per-app-per-user data (think of it like a storage for some parameters for applications and users)

This will allow writing applications in JavaScript using common OpenSocial API that will use data from Wikidot.com.
